  • Periodontal disease diagnosis: The examination focuses on bleeding or puffy gums, tooth infection, bad breadth, or any other problem around the tooth.
  • Oral cancer screening: This involves a thorough check up to examine if any signs of oral cancer exist. Regular examinations help in early diagnosis and treatable.
  • Cavities and tooth fractures: Checks on any possible wear and tear of cavities and detects tooth fractures.
  • Evaluating current restorations: A regular oral examination helps in evaluating the status of the restorations - fillings, veneers, crowns, implants, bridges and so on.
  • Examining tooth decay/caries/cavity: Early detection of tooth decay helps in timely treatment of the tooth decay which includes filling, crown, root canal treatment, extraction depending on the severity of the problem.
  • Removing plaque: Plaque is a sticky substance that can lead to deposition of calculus and cavities resulting in tooth decay and gum problems.
  • Removing Calculus: Calculus (tartar) is hardened plaque on the tooth that develops over a period of time in the absence of proper oral care. It can also lead to gum disease if it deposits below the gum line.
  • Removing stains: Dental stains and discoloration are not only caused due to extrinsic factors like excessive use of beverages like tea, coffee, wine and tobacco stains from cigarettes, cigars, pipes, and chewing tobacco, but intrinsic factors too have share in tarnishing your lovely pair of teeth and needs professional dental help. Treatment of Gum Disease

  • Destroys Tissue:  Periodontal (gum) disease describes bacterial growth and toxins that gradually destroy tissue supporting the teeth. Gingivitis and periodontitis are the two main stages of gum disease. Gingivitis involves inflammation of the gums from plaque. It can be treated and reversed with professional cleanings, daily brushing and flossing to remove plaque accumulation.
  • Tooth Loss:  Periodontitis is an actual infection of the tissues and bone that support the teeth. Deep gum pockets are formed that allow harmful bacteria to grow and cause inflammation and infection. Untreated, periodontal diseases may eventually lead to tooth loss.
  • Can Start Young:  Periodontal disease often starts in adolescence and can progress painlessly for years before becoming apparent. Bone tissue wears away from around the roots of teeth faster than the gum tissue can follow. Hard to clean gum pockets harbor millions of bacteria that destroy bone. As more bone support is lost around the roots, teeth become loose and the person's breath often becomes foul.

Sealants
Sealants protect the chewing surface of permanent molars and premolars from decay. Normal pits and grooves on the chewing surfaces of back teeth trap food and bacteria that cannot be removed by brushing.  A sealant is a tough, tooth-colored plastic material designed to bond to tooth enamel and fill in the pits and grooves so that bacteria does not cause decay. The material is painted onto the tooth surface comfortably and without the need for numbing. Sealants do not prevent decay in between the teeth, so regular brushing, flossing and dental cleanings and exams are important.

Tooth-Colored Fillings (Composite Fillings)
Are you one of those who think that the only solution to cavities is metal fillings that look so ugly? Well, now metal fillings, also known as amalgam, have been replaced by natural-tooth-colored fillings that make your smile beautiful. Tooth colored fillings are the latest in cosmetic dentistry. The use of composites for tooth colored filling in place of amalgam is a safer and better solution. Also, tooth-colored fillings are long lasting as they are bonded onto your teeth.

Tooth colored fillings are ideal for:

  • Cavity Restorations: Cavities must be filled immediately before they lead to a situation where the tooth has to be extracted. Tooth colored fillings can repair cavity and make your tooth look better.
  • Silver-free smile: Get rid of amalgam fillings with more attractive and safer tooth-colored fillings. Go home with a beautiful silver-free smile.
  • Aesthetic look: Tooth colored fillings do not look artificial. So, now you can go out with that perfect and confident smile without hiding your teeth.

Tooth colored fillings last for many years, depending on the following factors:

  • Daily maintenance and cleaning of teeth.
  • Smaller fillings last for a longer time than larger ones.
  • The area or the tooth which is filled.

Know more about composite tooth colored filling - Composite fillings are a better alternative to the traditional metal fillings. Metal fillings were more obvious and had the tendency to blacken over time, but this is not the case with composite fillings for they are more durable, strong, attractive, and natural looking. With a composite filling, a dentist can make a more conservative repair of the tooth where the composites are held in a cavity. If the chewing load is high, the composite fillings will wear but less so than metal fillings.

  • They provide a natural tooth color making the teeth look better.
  • They can last for about six to twelve years.
  • They are hardly affected by hot and cold items.
  • Drilling is not required as much of the tooth structure as was with metal fillings.

Porcelain Crowns (Caps) & Bridges
If you have a decayed, damaged or a missing tooth, crowns and bridges can restore them allowing you to smile confidently like before. A crown is used to restore one tooth while a bridge is used to replace multiple missing teeth.

When do you need a crown or a bridge?

  • Crown restorations are required after a root canal treatment as the teeth becomes more prone to fractures.
  • A fractured tooth that can’t be fixed by a filling.
  • Teeth supporting the adjacent bridge replacement need a crown restoration.
  • To replace decayed tooth.
  • Stained or discolored teeth need restorations.
  • To replace an extensively damaged tooth that can no longer keep the filling intact.

More about Crowns and Bridges
Porcelain crowns and bridges are custom made to sync well with the natural color or shade of the existing teeth. The tooth size is reduced so that a crown or a bridge fits over the existing teeth properly.
An impression of the prepared tooth is taken by a dentist and the dental lab makes the crown or a bridge using the material as per the specifications. A temporary crown or a bridge is fixed over your teeth until the permanent one has been made. The crown or a bridge is then cemented over the prepared tooth. Crowns are one of the most common dental procedures performed today and with proper maintenance and care, their benefits can last a long time.

Porcelain Veneers
Veneers are a perfect solution for many people seeking that perfect smile. It is a part of   “cosmetic dentistry” and is used to correct both color and shape problems, close spaces between teeth and set right uneven, chipped or cracked teeth. These problems may occur due to:

  • Staining or discoloration
  • Aging
  • Chemical damage (like medication) to teeth
  • Excessive intake of coffee, tea, soda, and tobacco
  • Genetic reasons

Procedure of attaching veneer onto your tooth

  • We will first examine your teeth to get an idea about the condition and best veneer treatment for your teeth. After the examination, we devise a veneer treatment plan depending on the patient’s need. We also ensure that the tooth color is closest to your natural tooth color.
  • Next, come the preparation of the tooth for which local anesthesia is given to ensure that you are at ease during the treatment. Then an impression of the teeth is taken and sent to the dental laboratory for fabrication of veneers. A mold is prepared from the impression used as a temporary veneer.
  • The patient is advised to wear a temporary veneer until the permanent veneer gets ready, and specify the adjustments to be made in the permanent veneer.
  • For the final fixation of the veneer, local anesthesia is used for patient’s comfort, and the teeth are cleaned before the veneer is finally fixed onto the tooth. With the help of a special curing light the glue/cement is hardened.

Tooth Whitening
Teeth Whitening is a highly effective and affordable procedure that lightens and whitens teeth and leaves them feeling ultra-clean.  Millions of people have already whitened their teeth. There are 2 types of Teeth Whitening procedures commonly used by dentists. The most common:

  • At-Home Teeth Whitening:  Uses whitening gels in custom fitted trays.
  • In-Office Teeth Whitening:   Uses a stronger gel placed under professional supervision.   After the teeth and gums have been carefully protected, a strong tooth whitening solution is placed on every tooth. The solution is then light activated and kept in place for about an hour.

Root Canal Therapy
Very few things are as durable as a natural tooth. However, extensive decay, an accident, fracture, or gum disease can lead to a tooth infection that can threaten to destroy a healthy tooth.

  • It removes bacteria, toxins, unhealthy nerve tissue, and irritants that are currently present in a tooth.
  • It fills in and seals off the nerve space inside a tooth so physically there is no location where bacteria and tissue irritants can exist and be out of effective reach of your body's defense mechanisms.

When a tooth's nerve chamber becomes infected, a root canal treatment is often the only way to save the tooth. Indications can include pain, prolonged sensitivity to heat or cold, discoloration of the tooth, and swelling or tenderness in the nearby gums.

Dental Implants
Whether missing one tooth or all their teeth, more and more people are replacing the loss with dental implants. Having a more natural feel than traditional bridges or dentures, most implant procedures involve placing metal anchors into the bone of the jaw, allowing the anchor and bone to fuse, placing an extension or abutment in the anchor, and fixing a prosthetic tooth, or crown, on the extension. After undergoing this multi-step process, many patients find they have a better feeling, better looking, and more stable solution to their tooth loss than more traditional dental reconstructive approaches.

INDICATIONS FOR DENTAL IMPLANTS

  • Missing teeth due to any reason.
  • Painful & loose dentures.
  • Prevention of shrinkage of jawbone after tooth loss.

When teeth are removed, Mother Nature assumes there is no need for the bone that supported the teeth. After all, that is the primary job of your jawbone. Over time the bone slowly, yet progressively diminishes. In fact the upper and lower jawbones get smaller or shrink. This process, called resorption, occurs at a more rapid rate if all teeth in the jaw are missing. But, it also occurs when just some of the teeth are missing. If left untreated, the loss of jaw bone can progress so far that a denture will no longer stay in place no matter how much sticky adhesive is used.

Mini Implants
Mini Implants can also be used to hold dentures in place.  This type of treatment is securely fixed on top of two to four implants. Although these dentures are removable for cleaning and oral hygiene, they are quite different from conventional dentures, since they are securely retained in the mouth and function much more like natural teeth.
